Ethical AI and Data Protection in Finance and Beyond

(EAIDP-23)

Faial Island, Azores, Venue: Sociedade Amor da Pátria

3rd and 4th of September 2023

Summary

Welcome to the website of the Conference on Ethical AI and Data Protection in Finance and Beyond (EAIDP-23). A FinAI COST Action Conference.

The aim of the FinAI COST Action “Fintech and Artificial Intelligence in Finance – Towards a transparent financial industry” is to develop a knowledge exchange platform to promote sustainable innovation and the ethical use of AI in the financial sector. This aim has been pursued through nearly three years of research and dissemination activity, coordinated by independent academic centres, aimed at developing and testing best practices in all domains of FinTech and Financial Data Science. The network involves regulatory authorities, FinTech companies, financial institutions, and universities of the 27 EU countries (plus the UK and Switzerland) and other international participants.

It is becoming increasingly clear that, for society to benefit from the use of AI, researchers from different domains and policy makers must carefully investigate and understand ethically sensitive implications of AI uses, which are not always obvious if AI and its uses are not examined through sufficiently interdisciplinary lenses. A prime example is the fact that it is becoming increasingly clear, as stressed by recent regulatory developments like the GDPR and Ethical AI EU directives, that the ethical use of AI must grapple with the ethical use of personal data and the implications for privacy that uses of AI can have.

The COST Action FinAI and University College Dublin will thus organize a mini-conference on the broad topic of “Ethical AI and Data Protection in Finance and Beyond”. The conference organizers invite contributions in the form of working papers to be presented at the conference. The papers can be conceptual, theoretical, empirical, or clinical, and could be policy-oriented papers as well as the more classical research working papers. In any case, contributors are invited to explore the policy implications of their research findings.

All questions about submissions should be emailed to Dr Maria Moloney at Maria.Moloney@ucd.ie
